How Polyphenols In Green Tea Work?

One of the compounds in green tea is called a phenol which is a very fragrant benzene ring with an attached hydroxyl group. This is why the polyphenols in green tea refer to a substance with many phenol groups. The phenols in green tea function react with free radicals creating potent antioxidants. The bright coloring in fruits and vegetables are due to the polyphenols. The appearance of disease and ultraviolet light in green tea are prevented by phenols.

The green tea’s polyphenols are potent and plentiful. The most power antioxidants are the polyphenols which can be found in green tea. EGCG found in green tea is the main antioxidant found in green tea. Many lifelong illnesses like cancer, aging, and heart disease can be traced back to free radical damage.

In green tea, the polyphenols protect the body from free radical damage caused by cell mutation. The body has free radicals that can be caused due to various environmental deficiencies. Free radicals want only to be stable. In order for the free radicals to become a stable bunch, the electrons in the atoms need to be paired.

The oxidization involving the free radicals produces another free radical. The polyphenols in green tea protect the body from reactions that produce free radicals. The green tea’s polyphenols give an electron to the free radical which stops the free radical from producing any more free radicals. Therefore, the polyphenols in green tea stabilize the free radicals in the body by pleasing the free radicals with an extra electron.

The polyphenol levels in green tea appear to be the most potent due to the free radical reducing power. The amount of polyphenols and antioxidants in the green tea depend on how the tea is processed in the first place. When green tea is steamed, it appears to retain more polyphenols and nutrients rather than most traditional methods.

Many studies have been done on the health benefits of green tea, but most do not draw a clear conclusion. Green tea benefits have been linked to a reduced risk of cancer and heart disease in other countries in Asia. The only side effect to green tea is the overabundant amount of caffeine. Green tea helps prevent cavities, strengthens teeth, and is thought to kill oral bacteria that are responsible for bad breath due to the fluorine nature found in the green tea. Also, green tea has been shown to reduce and relieve the brain from stress resulting in a younger age leading to a younger complexion.

There are an abundant amount of health benefits towards those on a strict green tea diet. Green tea can also be proved to be a wonderful addition to weight loss along with exercise and a nutritious diet. A preferred physician should be consulted before going on a green tea diet.
