How To Make Loose Leaf Tea Without Strainer?

The portable, convenient teabags make it easy and fast to prepare your cup of coffee, whether you’re at home, office, or on the go.

However, sometimes the situation might require you to use loose leaf to make your coffee…and even worse, you might not have a strainer within reach.

“How do I do that?” It sounds impossible…you think.

But it’s very possible. And right below here, I’ll give you two simple methods of doing this (including one that my Chinese friends taught me).

Here we go:

#1. Using A Cheesecloth

Cheesecloth (you can find one in the aisle of your favorite grocery store) can also help you easily brew loose leaf cup, anywhere, anytime!

This is all you have to do:

  • Obtain a 3” by 3” piece of this material
  • Place a teaspoon of your loose leaf tea right in the middle
  • Wrap the cloth and carefully tie the ends so that it doesn’t open. It should assume the shape of a mini-sack. And while packing, make sure you leave sufficient space for your tea to expand
  • Finally, steep like typical teabag

Hooray! You just made a cup of tea without your kitchen strainer. Enjoy!

#2. My Chinese Friend’s Method- Blowing on It!

This is how I’ve been personally doing it: placing the tea leaves directly into glass infusion and watch patiently as the tea particles slowly settle at the bottom of the glass.

But I’ve one big problem, where some bits would shamelessly float on the surface, making it hard for me to drink.

You can imagine what my lips would look like after taking my tea.

My Chinese friend (I hope she’s reading this) watched me struggling with this method and was pretty amused…I understand they’re used to it in their country, and she found it funny that I couldn’t do it.

So, she offered to teach me an easy way to drink my loose leaf tea without looking like a kid who’s feeding on spinach.

Her trick involves gently blowing on the surface of your tea such that the floating particles shift to the other side of your cup.

Afterward, you can now sip your tea from the clear side (and you are allowed to make the slurping sound!)

Simple but quite effective!

Final Verdict

You have no excuse as to why you shouldn’t enjoy a cup of tea. As long as you have full leaf tea at reach, forget the strainer and use the above methods I’ve shared with you. They’re simple methods that will save you big time!
